Piazza del Popolo
Piazza del Popolo – the “People’s Square” and for centuries Rome’s northern gateway. In 1589 the Egyptian Flaminio Obelisk was erected at its centre; between 1811 and 1822 Giuseppe Valadier gave the square its monumental elliptical form.
